740 E. 56th Place, Chicago, IL 60637 (Map)Join us to view the rough cut in process of this new documentary on the upheavals of 1919, which places Chicago’s race riots a national context.
How was Chicago part of the larger series of racial conflicts nationwide during the “red summer” of 1919? In what ways were the 1919 riots in Chicago distinct? Based upon extensive archival footage and historical research, rough cut segments of the documentary will be shown for the first time, interspersed by a moderated conversation with the producer and experts, and performances by musicians who have worked on the film soundtrack.
