Chicago 1919: Confronting the Race Riots

Join National Youth Poet Laureates and YCA alumna Patricia Frazier (2018) and Kara Jackson (2019), and members of the 2019 Young Chicago Authors Louder than a Bomb Squad as they debut work inspired by the difficult history of the 1919 race riots.

The Squad's spoken word performances will be the culmination of an intensive summer apprenticeship during which high school performers have explored primary source materials in the Newberry Library collection related to the riots, and drawn connections between the tragic events of 1919 and today.
